Luke 2:22–52 | A Life of Humility

In this Bible study from Luke 2:22–52, we continue the story of Jesus’ early life and discover just how humble His beginnings truly were. Forty days after His birth, Mary and Joseph bring Jesus to the temple—not with a rich offering, but with the sacrifice of the poor. We meet Simeon, who had been promised he would see the Messiah before he died, and Anna, a faithful widow who spent her life serving God in the temple. Both declare that this child is the Messiah—within the first 40 days of His life. We also fast-forward to when Jesus is 12 years old, teaching in the temple and declaring that He must be in His Father’s house. Even then, His wisdom astonishes the teachers, while His life remains marked by humility, obedience, and patience. This passage reminds us that Jesus did not come in wealth, power, or recognition—but in surrender, obedience, and humility. From the manger, to the temple, to the long years of waiting, His life shows us a different way to live.
