You Can't Follow Jesus While Looking Back | Luke 9:51-62

You can't move forward with Jesus while living in yesterday, and that is exactly what Luke 9 challenges us to face together. Welcome back to Bible Study with the DeafBlind Potter. This is the final part of our mug series through Luke 9, and I am so glad you are here for it. In this passage, Jesus is moving toward Jerusalem with purpose and intention, and along the way three different people tell him they want to follow him. Each one holds back. Each one wants to look behind before stepping forward. Jesus responds to all three with the same heart truth: discipleship is not about where you have been, it is about who you are following. When I lost my vision and my world went dark, I spent seasons angry and grieving the life I thought I was supposed to have. I kept looking backwards. But anger could not move me forward, and neither can yours. The DeafBlind Potter ministry was not born from me looking back at what I lost. It was born from me choosing to follow Jesus forward. Just like a farmer cannot plow a straight field while looking over his shoulder, we cannot walk with Jesus while our eyes are fixed on yesterday. The clay on the wheel cannot return to what it was before the potter touched it. The process only moves forward, and God is calling you to do the same. So I want to ask you right now: what loss, what regret, what old dream are you still carrying?
