Get Ready To See Beautiful Things | John 6:31-34

Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.” — John 6:31-34 Let's remember, this is an exchange between Jesus and a group from the crowd of the 5000. Because he satisfied their hunger with an incredible meal, they chased him down. Now they are pleading with him to do more of the same. But Jesus is not going to play to their entitled fantasies. They want another sign, but like we said yesterday, they want Jesus to meet their demands. They have yet to connect that Jesus is the spiritual satisfaction for their hunger. So they do something they probably shouldn't do. They misuse the Word of God. And Jesus picks up on it because he is the Word of God in the flesh. They are suggesting that Exodus 16:15 reads that Moses gave the Israelites the manna in the desert. But the Bible clearly states that God gave it to them to eat, not Moses. Remember that this is the Passover weekend, so the Exodus events would still be on everyone's mind. So five things crossed my mind today as I read this. First, thinking spiritually is hard when we have spent a lifetime thinking naturally. Second, it is hard to see a spiritual blessing when we only want a natural blessing. Third, if we only want natural blessings, we will become entitled. Fourth, entitlement will eventually lead to manipulating the truth to get what we want. Fifth, if we do this, we may never see the spiritual blessing unless we have a patient spiritual guide who will work through the process with us. And guess what? In Jesus, you have a patient spiritual guide willing to walk through all this with you. That is, if you are willing to see all the spiritual blessings he wants to show you. So do that today. Ask God to start showing you spiritual things. I promise if you ask him, he will show them to you. And when he does, you will never be able to unsee them. ASK THIS: Are you ready to ask God for spiritual sight and blessings? DO THIS: Ask God to show you spiritual things. PRAY THIS: God, show me all the beautiful spiritual things you want me to see. Satisfy me with spiritual blessings. Make my natural desires go away. PLAY THIS: Beautiful Things.
