Jesus Bore Your Sins—Now Follow Him | 1 Peter 2:21-25

What do you do when life doesn’t feel fair? Someone betrays your trust. A false accusation damages your reputation. You become the target of criticism you didn’t deserve. You do the right thing and suffer anyway. In those moments, our instinct is to defend ourselves, retaliate, prove our innocence, or make someone else feel the pain they caused us. Peter understood that instinct. He once reached for a sword in the Garden of Gethsemane. But later, Peter watched Jesus suffer the greatest injustice imaginable. Jesus was falsely accused, mocked, beaten, humiliated, and crucified. Yet He did not retaliate. He did not threaten. He entrusted Himself to the Father who judges justly. In 1 Peter 2:21-25, Peter reminds us that Jesus is our example. But Jesus is more than our example. He is our substitute. “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree.” Jesus did not merely show us how to suffer. He suffered in our place. The sinless One carried our sins. The innocent One bore our guilt. By His wounds, we are healed. If you are walking through unfair suffering, you are not walking alone. The Shepherd who died for you now leads you through it.
