When Stupidity Comes To An End | Devotional | Job 25

Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said: “Dominion and fear are with God; he makes peace in his high heaven. Is there any number to his armies? Upon whom does his light not arise? How then can man be in the right before God? How can he who is born of woman be pure? Behold, even the moon is not bright, and the stars are not pure in his eyes; how much less man, who is a maggot, and the son of man, who is a worm!” — Job 25:1-6 So this is the last time we hear from these friends. Thank God! And if you have been reading through Job with me, you will notice that each of these three men speaks on a rotation. And each time, their bloviating gets shorter and shorter. This is because they are running out of things to say. But these last few words from Bildad are very insightful. While he was wrong to assume that Job was suffering because of a specific sin, he is right about two claims he makes here. One is a claim about God, and one is a claim about man. Claim one, God is sovereign. He is sovereign over all things, and dominion and justice reside with him. Claim two, man is sinful. And man is so sinful; he is born and dies in this depraved state. And while much of his counsel is wrong, Bildad's final claims here are spot on. Humanity is born sinful. This is a fact. We are selfish, and we reject God from our first breath to the last. The result of this depravity is spiritual death evidenced by physical death. For us to overcome this state of despair, we need to be rescued by God. Therefore in the act of God's grace, he provides us with a second birth. A spiritual rebirth. in fact, Jesus taught that we could be "born again." (John 3:3) This second birth is where man ceases to be a child of man and becomes a child of God. And this second birth occurs at the moment we reject our old ways of leading our own life and let Jesus be the leader of our life. It says this in John 3:16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. — John 3:16 Today may be a day you want to make that decision. And you can do that right now. Believe in Jesus Christ. Reject your old life. Accept God's gift of new and eternal life by submitting to Jesus as your Lord and Savior. And become a child of God today. If you made this decision today, let me know, and I will send some resources your way that may help you get started in those first steps of your new life. ASK THIS: Are you ready to make Jesus your Lord and Savior and be born again? Or do you know someone who needs Jesus as their Lord and Savior? DO THIS: Believe! Or ask God to help a person's unbelief. PRAY THIS: God, I want to make you my Lord and Savior. And I know other people who may need to do the same.
