The Transforming Power of God's Word | Nehemiah 8:9-12

And Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, “This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn or weep.” For all the people wept as they heard the words of the Law. Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. Thanks for your support, and I pray this blesses you today. There are two effects of God's Word on the people: repentance and rejoicing. This is the effect of God's Word. This is because God's Word is not a book like other books. It may contain information about history, culture, government, and politics, but it's not a mere history book. It's far more. This is what most people underestimate about it. It's a spiritual book that has a supernatural impact. We call it God's Word because it contains words spoken by our timeless God. It's God's Story. The story he spoke was written down by men, which men like Ezra read to tell us about him. God's Word is a living, breathing, always active force. When read, it has power to convict, change, direct, and redirect human life. By God's Word, he spoke creation into existence, and by his Son, who was his Word in the flesh, he redeemed all mankind. Therefore, two things happen when we hear and hear the Word of God. First, we repent. Second, we rejoice, which is exactly what happens here. Today, this is our only hope. We must direct our lives, marriages, families, and churches back to God's Word. And if we read it, hear it, heed it, and stop adapting the Word to our lives and adapt our lives to God's Word, there will be a spiritual revolution of repentance and rejoicing. So try this. Select one of the classic verses from God's Word below. Commit it to memory. Adapt your life around it today. Then, use it one time in a conversation with someone and see if it doesn't have a supernatural impact on your life and theirs as well. "I can do all things through him who strengthens me." — Philippians 4:13  "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
