PART TEN: Mystical Presence in Flesh Revealed
What if the clearest evidence that God dwells within us is simply how well we love?
In this episode of St.Aub, we explore what Scripture calls the greatest of all Christian virtues: love. St. John tells us that “God is love,” and that whoever abides in love abides in God. If the goal of the Godward life is union with God, then our growing capacity to give and receive love may be one of the clearest signs of His indwelling presence.
Drawing from Scripture, Christian mysticism, and the wisdom of the saints, St.Aub explores agape—the selfless love revealed most fully in Jesus Christ. This is a love that goes beyond affection, friendship, or family bonds. It lays down its life for others, extends even to enemies, and lies at the heart of Jesus’ greatest commandments: love God with your whole being and love your neighbor as yourself.
But knowing what the Bible says about love is different from actually experiencing the love of God. St.Aub reflects personally on the difference between knowing God intellectually and encountering His love deep within the heart. Through solitude, stillness, silence, and listening prayer, truths we may have understood for years can become something much more personal: the realization that I am the lost sheep Jesus comes after. I am the prodigal He welcomes home. I am someone God loves.
And experiencing that love changes the way we love others. As God's love moves from something we understand to something we deeply know, fear begins to loosen its grip. We become more capable of vulnerability, compassion, forgiveness, and the kind of selfless love Christ calls us to embody.
If this reflection resonated with you, consider subscribing and returning as we continue exploring the Godward path together. You're always welcome here. And if you think of someone who might need this, feel free to share it.
