PART NINE: Your Inner Journey to Union With God
What is the difference between knowing about God…and actually knowing God?
In this episode of St.Aub, we explore a deeper kind of knowing—one that goes beyond intellectual understanding and opens the heart to a personal experience of God's presence. We can study Scripture, theology, creation, and the traditions of the Church and learn a great deal about God. But the deepest longing of the soul is not simply to accumulate knowledge about Him. It is to know Him.
Drawing from Scripture, Christian mysticism, and Eastern Orthodox spirituality, St.Aub explores the nous, sometimes described as the "mind in the heart." While our rational and analytical minds are important, they can only take us so far. Solitude, stillness, silence, prayer, Scripture, worship, and the beauty of creation can awaken a deeper spiritual perception.
This episode also reflects on what it means to be a Christian mystic—not someone pursuing the occult or something strange, but someone seeking conscious communion and union with God through prayer. Through the story of Evelyn Underhill and a personal experience of encountering God's presence through music and creation, St.Aub considers the profound difference between believing something is true and experiencing its reality in the heart.
This episode invites you to ask: Do I simply know things about God, or am I learning to know God Himself? The Christian journey doesn't ask us to abandon reason, but to allow God to open the eyes and ears of the soul so that we can perceive His presence more deeply.
