PART NINE: Your Inner Journey to Union With God In this episode of St.Aub, we explore the difference between being a “human doing” and a human being. It can be easy to fill our lives with good work, productivity, ministry, and service—even work done for God—while overlooking the deeper work God wants to do within us. The Godward journey begins when transformation of the soul becomes more important than simply accomplishing more. Drawing from Scripture, the story of Moses and the burning bush, and the wisdom of the early Church Fathers, St.Aub reflects on what happens when a human being encounters the divine presence of God. Like Moses standing on holy ground, encountering God brings us face-to-face not only with who God is, but with who we really are. This episode explores the tension between our true self—created in the image and likeness of God—and the false, fallen self shaped by sin and disobedience. Through self-knowledge, spiritual discipline, and God's grace, we begin the slow process of putting off the old self and becoming who God created us to be. In the language of Eastern Orthodox spirituality, the journey toward theosis, or union with God, involves kenosis: the emptying of the false self so that our true self can be restored. The process takes time, but the goal is something deeper than accomplishment—a life increasingly filled with the joy, peace, and love that come from communion with God.
