PART EIGHT: Soul Tending
In this episode of St.Aub, we explore the biblical virtue of discernment. In a world filled with competing voices, shifting values, and endless opinions, the Godward soul is called to carefully examine every thought, desire, and influence in light of God's truth. Discernment isn't about becoming critical of others—it's about honestly assessing the condition of our own hearts and learning to recognize what truly pleases God.
Drawing from Scripture, the Desert Fathers, the Philokalia, and the wisdom of Eastern Orthodox spirituality, St.Aub reflects on discernment as an essential habit of the soul. As watchfulness helps us notice what is happening within us, discernment helps us evaluate it. It teaches us to test our thoughts, guard our hearts, resist deception, and pursue the righteousness that prepares the soul to become a dwelling place of God.
This episode invites you to ask some important questions: What is shaping your thinking? Is your moral compass being formed by God's kingdom or by the culture around you? As we learn to "take every thought captive" and seek God's wisdom, we grow in humility, spiritual maturity, and the ability to recognize His will more clearly.
If this reflection resonated with you, consider subscribing and returning as we continue exploring the Godward path together. You’re always welcome here. And if you think of someone who might need this, feel free to share it.
Topics in this video include spiritual discernment, renewing the mind, taking every thought captive, biblical wisdom, the Philokalia, the Desert Fathers, Eastern Orthodox spirituality, Christian spiritual formation, and the Godward life.
