Hi Duane,
It's great to hear that you're diving into the Proverbs study and finding it challenging in this new chapter of your life. The verse you mentioned, Proverbs 13:25, speaks to the idea of finding perfect satisfaction, which can indeed be elusive in a world filled with distractions.
As you mentioned, you now have more quiet time than ever before. Here are some practical suggestions, grounded in God's Word, to help you make the most of this season and find contentment in the Lord:
Prayer and Meditation: Spend quality time in prayer and meditation on God's Word daily. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our understanding. Seek His guidance and wisdom in your quiet moments.
Gratitude Journal: Consider starting a gratitude journal. Write down three things you're thankful for each day. Gratitude can shift your focus from what you lack to what you have.
Serve Others: Find opportunities to serve others in your community or church. Acts 20:35 tells us that it's more blessed to give than to receive. Serving can bring a sense of purpose and joy.
Fellowship: Even in your alone time, stay connected with fellow believers. Join an online Christian community or engage in virtual Bible studies to share your faith journey and receive encouragement.
Contentment in God's Provision: Philippians 4:11-13 speaks about finding contentment in all circumstances through Christ's strength. Trust that God's provision is sufficient for you, even in your solitude.
Dive into Scripture: Since you're already reading more, consider exploring deeper studies into specific books of the Bible or theological topics. The James study you mentioned is a great choice.
Practice Mindfulness: Take moments to be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10). Practice mindfulness in your quiet hours, focusing your thoughts on the presence of God.
Set Goals: Set spiritual growth goals for yourself. Write them down and track your progress. This can give you a sense of purpose and direction.
Exercise and Health: Don't forget to take care of your physical health during this time. It can have a significant impact on your mental and spiritual well-being.
Seek Accountability: Share your journey with a trusted friend or mentor who can hold you accountable for your spiritual growth and contentment.
