Standing for Truth | John 9:24-27

So for the second time they called the man who had been blind and said to him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.” He answered, “Whether he is a sinner I do not know. One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.” They said to him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?” He answered them, “I have told you already, and you would not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?” — John 9:24-27 So today, I will make a contemporary connection so you can see the context of this moment. But I don't want to you think that the contemporary connection I am going to make is my attempt to take sides. But the Inquisition of this text is a lot like the Durham Investigation. Religious politicians are looking for something that is not there, spending countless amounts of money and time to prove something they want proven to advance their agenda against Jesus. But in the end, the facts and the people prove something different. So let's step back through this situation again. Jesus healed a blind man on the Sabbath Day, which was the second time he performed a miracle on the Sabbath. The religious-political authorities don't like it because this breaks from their oral traditions. Working to entrap Jesus, they first interrogate the man. Then his parents. And they don't get the proof they need. So go round two with the formerly blind man. All they need from him is a testimony that Jesus is a sinner. But the man can't and won't testify to this. The only fact he can attest to is that he was blind and can see. But notice this. This inquisition and the judgment of Jesus hang on one man. Only one man. One honest man. One witty man. One man who will not be corrupted by a false narrative or fake news. One man will only testify to the truth about Jesus and will not cave to the pressure. And I love the sarcasm of his response because sarcasm is the sixth love language. Gentlemen, this is where we are in our time. These are the men we need. Men of discernment. Men of integrity. Men of truth. Men who will testify to the truth with discernment and integrity when pressured by a false narrative or fake news. But remember, the truth we testify to is not our opinions — it's biblical truth. It's about Jesus. So get out there today — testify and be witty.  ASK THIS: How am I currently standing for truth in my life? In what areas am I facing pressure to conform to popular narratives or compromise my beliefs? How can I strengthen my commitment to biblical truth? Am I exercising discernment in the information I consume and the opinions I form? How can I ensure that I seek the truth and not blindly accept everything I hear or read? What steps can I take to deepen my critical thinking and discernment skills? Do I consistently maintain integrity in my words and actions? Are there areas where I need to align my behavior more closely with my beliefs? How can I cultivate a character of honesty, humility, and consistency in my testimony? DO THIS: When pressured, stand for the truth of Jesus. PRAY THIS: God, grant us the courage to stand for truth, the discernment to navigate false narratives, and the integrity to testify boldly about Jesus, anchored in Your unchanging Word. Amen.
