1-Revelation,pt3, Special Revelation and Miracles

Walt Chantry asked a penetrating question regarding the mysticism and chasing after the MIRACULOUS (rather than Scriptural revelation alone) that has become so characteristic on the fringes of Christianity. "Here is the most vital question of all! Does faith come by 'hearing and hearing the Word of God' (Rom 10:17)? Or, does it come by encounter, and encounter by miracles? Is the Word of God living and powerful (Heb 4:12)? Or is it lifeless and impotent until made effective by demonstrations of miracles in the material realm?" Well, over 50 years ago faithful Bible teacher John Whitcomb, standing on the Word of God alone, answered with a resounding, "No, the Church doesn't need the new revelation from Heaven today! We already have a completed Bible and the Holy Spirit of God to interpret and apply it! The Church doesn't need more apostles to guide her through the troubled waters of the Satan-dominated world. An apostle might fail us, as Peter did at Antioch...the Church doesn't need special powers like those which Christ promised to the apostles in Mark 16:17-18...The Church doesn't need any holy places, healing centers, faith healers, or signs and wonders to appeal to the five senses. What the Church needs is A NEW CONFRONTATION WITH THE WHOLE COUNSEL OF GOD PROCLAIMED IN THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT WITH AUTHORITY AND LOVE, BY MEN WHO KNOW THEIR GOD AND WHO HONOR HIS ONLY WRITTEN REVELATION."
