C. H. Spurgeon said, "I would sooner be holy than happy if the two things could be divorced. Were it possible for a man always to sorrow and yet be pure, I would choose the sorrow if I might win the purity; for, beloved, to be free from the power of sin, to be made to love holiness, though I have spoken after the manner of men to you, is true happiness." Well, Spurgeon understood the priority that the Lord places on holiness over happiness, yet they are not mutually exclusive. God promises pleasure in purity and that pleasure is communion in His presence. Join us for "Happy are the Holy"-Matt 5:8 this coming Lord's Day!
