Guaranteed Glory-Romans 8:28

In his incredibly edifying booklet, BEHIND A FROWNING PROVIDENCE, pastor-prof John Murray says, "God has forged an inseparable link between sufferings and glory. That was the road that Christ took. He was made complete as our Saviour 'through sufferings'. He endured. He was without sin. How much more is suffering part of the road that leads sinners to perfection and glory! What abundant cause we have to be reconciled to our sufferings! 'I always feel much need of God's afflicting hand', wrote Robert Murray M'Cheyne. Said Rutherford: 'Praise God for the hammer, the file and the furnace' and, in similar vein, C.H. Spurgeon wrote, 'This is the place of the furnace, the forge and the hammer.' We must not be deceived by the current view that invites us to get rid of our troubles and sicknesses and then rejoice. The NT calls on us to rejoice in the midst of sufferings. Indeed we ought to be alarmed if we have no experience of suffering, for we suffer with Him that we may be glorified together (Rom 1:17). There is no glory without suffering." This coming Lord's Day we'll look at one of the greatest promises in all the Bible in which believers alone rest in, that God CAUSES ALL THINGS TO WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD! This truth of Romans 8:28 is unqualified, meaning that He doesn't just providentially and sovereignly use the good, but also the evil. He uses the evil of suffering in this fallen world, the evil of temptation, and the evil of sin all to work for the good in the lives of those who love God; those who are called by Him.
