In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for three weeks. I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, for the full three weeks. On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river (that is, the Tigris) I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, a man clothed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist. His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude. And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision, but a great trembling fell upon them, and they fled to hide themselves. — Daniel 10:2-7 In chapter 10, Daniel is overwhelmed. We don't understand what he is overwhelmed about, but we know a few details that help us fill the gap. First, we know that Daniel is in his 80s and the latter years of his life. Second, we know that a small remnant of God's people is returning to Jerusalem. And third, we know that Daniel chooses to remain in his role under Cyrus, likely because of his influence in the Medo-Persian empire. But right at this time, Daniel left the city to find a solitary place to fast and pray. I think what Daniel does is something all men should do with regularity. Get away to get with God. Just notice the elements in the text here. Daniel notes a specific date in time. On that date, Daniel is secluded in a beautiful place along a river. So he left the busyness of life behind. On this date and in this place, he is engaged in spiritual activity. And he is not alone. He is with a small group of men. And it's on this date, location, secluded in prayer and fasting with other men, something happens. He gets a vision. It's a vision so powerful that it rocks the men who are with him. Fella's, you need to do the same. Annually at minimum, you need to determine a date, location, and place to engage in longer-term engagement with God and other men. If you aren't doing this, you are missing out on things God wants to show you that could rock your world. ASK THIS: When are you going to meet with God this year? DO THIS: Schedule it and see what God wants to show you. PRAY THIS: God, as I prepare to be with you, prepare me to see what you want me to see. PLAY THIS:  Show Me Your Glory.
