Friends, London Baptist preacher Spurgeon reminds us, "We fear not God because of any compulsion; our faith is no fetter, our profession is no bondage, we are not dragged to holiness, nor driven to duty. No, our piety is our pleasure, our hope is our happiness, our duty is our delight!" What he was driving at is that for Christians who have been bought at such a high price by the blood of Christ, there is no price too high to pay in rendering obedience to our Lord who loved us first. No, we do not perform in order to merit God's favor, but all of our service, worship, and sanctified slaying of indwelling sin is a response of loving obedience. We are delighted debtors to grace. We are obligated to mercy alone. Hallelujah that we are no longer in bondage to sin nor obligated to do its will, yet are obligated to kill indwelling sin through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. Join us for our continued study of "Life in the Spirit",pt3 (Rom 8:12-13) this coming Lord's Day.
