For nearly two centuries, many readers of Ezekiel 38 have seen Russia in the figure of Gog. But that reading rests on a chain of assumptions that the Hebrew text and the ancient records do not support. This video opens the original language, the Assyrian sources, and the geography of Ezekiel's own world, and asks who Gog, Magog, Meshech and Tubal actually were.
📖 In this video, you will uncover:
✅ The prophecy of Gog of Magog, and its place in Ezekiel 38-39
✅ The word "rosh" in Ezekiel 38:2, and why most Hebrew scholars read it as "chief", not "Russia"
✅ Where the 19th-century "Rosh = Russia" idea actually came from
✅ Meshech and Tubal in the Assyrian records: peoples of ancient Anatolia, not the far north
✅ The Table of Nations, and how Ezekiel's audience would have understood these names
✅ What the passage meant to Israel in exile, before any modern map
📜 A NOTE ON INTERPRETATION
This video argues that the popular "Gog = Russia" reading is not supported by the text. That negative point is on solid ground: the "Rosh = Russia" etymology is a modern folk-etymology that most scholars reject, and "rosh" here is best read as the ordinary Hebrew word for "chief". It is important to add the other side: identifying Gog with any single modern nation, including any country today, repeats the same mistake in reverse. Meshech and Tubal were real Iron Age peoples of Anatolia; the video locates them there, and stops short of naming a present-day state as the fulfilment. Prophecy is read here in its own historical context, not mapped onto current headlines.
