This investigation argues the opposite, and lets the text defend it. We open three Hebrew words the common reading rushes past. Addereth, the garment that names both Achan's Babylonish robe and Elijah's hairy cloak, and never once generates power anywhere in Scripture. The "double portion," which is not twice the power but the inheritance language of the firstborn, drawn straight from the Law in Deuteronomy. And nuach, the verb for a Spirit that settles and stays, the same verb used of the seventy elders of Moses and of the Messianic Branch in Isaiah. It all turns on one recorded fact at the river, where the most famous relic in Israel lies inert in Elisha's hand until he cries out for the God who stood behind it. The clue was in plain sight.
