Thinking Clearly Is NOT Antithetical to Loving Jesus | The Mike

Faithful interpretation requires letting Scripture speak on its own terms rather than filtering it through modern assumptions, church traditions, or personal expectations, which often leads us to unconsciously impose our worldview onto the text and mistakenly assume the biblical writers thought like we do; instead, we must recognize that the Bible is an ancient Mediterranean document produced within vastly different cultural, intellectual, and spiritual frameworks, and that God intentionally chose those contexts, so proper understanding comes from entering their worldview rather than forcing ours onto the text, since making Scripture address modern questions directly can distort its meaning and cause us to miss what the authors actually intended. This principle is illustrated through several examples: the story of Saul and the medium shows that the biblical writers assumed a real spiritual world where the dead continue to exist (referred to as “elohim,” meaning spirit beings, not gods equal to Yahweh), and that while God forbids contacting the dead, He may allow such events under His control to convey truth, emphasizing that humans are not to seek spiritual knowledge outside God’s appointed means; Proverbs 25:21–22, when read in context and with ancient cultural background, teaches not retaliation but kindness toward enemies that produces shame and repentance rather than harm; the demonized man and the swine in Mark 5 reflects not merely an exorcism or political metaphor but a deeper “cosmic geography” in which Jesus, entering Gentile territory and being recognized as “Son of the Most High,” signals His authority over all nations and spiritual powers, reclaiming what was disinherited at Babel; and James 1:17’s “Father of lights” draws on ancient views of celestial bodies as both time-markers and spiritual entities, asserting God as their unchanging creator and sovereign over all powers. Altogether, the message is that reading the Bible accurately requires historical, cultural, and theological sensitivity to its original context, which can feel uncomfortable because it challenges inherited assumptions, but ultimately leads to a clearer, richer, and more faithful understanding of what Scripture is actually communicating. #jesus #gospel #hell #michaelheiser #bashan #jerusalem #satan Link to original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4E7Ke2FfRiQ&t=70s All rights to this material belong to their respective owners.
