and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. — Romans 1:4
As Paul declares, Jesus is given God's divine endorsement by the resurrection. But this is not to infer that God had not endorsed Jesus, just that the resurrection was the absolute endorsement that Jesus was the Christ and now is our Lord.
You see, in God's Word, we are given a lot of solid evidence that Jesus is the Son of God. Some skeptics will write him off as simply a moral man or a great teacher. Other skeptics will dismiss the virgin birth and his miracles as simple hoaxes or slights of hand.
But the resurrection is another thing. If it is true, it's a remarkable work of divine power and an endorsement of the essence, position, and identity of Jesus. And I believe the raw evidence supporting it is hard to ignore. Here are seven proofs:
The resurrection was predicted over 300 times in the Old Testament hundreds of years before the event.
Jesus died and was buried, but the tomb was empty, and no body was recovered even though the tomb was guarded and sealed.
Four independent biblical authors record significant evidence about the resurrection.
500+ people witnessed at one-time the risen Jesus.
Post-resurrection, James, Jesus's skeptical half-brother, becomes a believer.
Post-resurrection, the disciples grow in courage because of the resurrection to the point of martyrdom.
Post-resurrection, Saul, an opponent of believers, became a believer after seeing Jesus. He became one of the most ardent proponents of the faith and testified to one thing — the resurrection of Jesus.
And for me, these are strong evidence that close the gap in my unbelief. Yet these facts do not absolve my need for faith. In other words, these facts may close the gap between belief and unbelief, but still, I must take a leap of faith to believe that Jesus was raised from the dead. And the reason I choose to believe is not only because of these seven bits of evidence but also because I find God trustworthy. Over thousands of years, God has always done what he said he would do. And here, in this text, God endorses Jesus through his resurrection from the dead. And for me, this is a promise that not only is Jesus alive, but that I, too, one day, will be raised to live with him in eternity.
We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. — Romans 6:4-5
ASK THIS: What is causing your unbelief?
DO THIS: Repeat this to yourself throughout the day — "God is trustworthy."
PRAY THIS: God, help me in my unbelief.
PLAY THIS: for KING & COUNTRY - Shoulders.
