Dr. Michael S. Heiser (1963–2023) was a biblical scholar and educator (PhD, Hebrew Bible & Semitic Studies; MA, Ancient History) best known for making the Bible’s ancient Near Eastern and supernatural worldview accessible to everyday Christians. For 15 years he served as Scholar-in-Residence for Faithlife/Logos Bible Software, editing study Bibles, teaching, and writing for both academic and lay readers. His influential works include The Unseen Realm, Supernatural, Reversing Hermon, and the discipleship book What Does God Want?, alongside theological/paranormal fiction and podcasts like the Naked Bible Podcast. Heiser’s signature “Deuteronomy 32 worldview” frames salvation history around three rebellions—the Fall (Gen 3), the divine–human crisis of Gen 6:1–5, and Babel (Gen 11) read through Deut 32:8–9, where the Most High assigns the nations to lesser divine beings (“sons of God”) before calling Abraham to start a new family through whom all nations would be blessed. In this view, those assigned “gods” later become corrupt (Ps 82), producing the OT conflict between Yahweh and the nations’ gods and the NT language of “rulers,” “authorities,” and “principalities” as territorial powers. Heiser argued that Jesus’ death, resurrection, and ascension strip these powers of legitimate authority, enabling the gospel to reclaim the nations (“fullness of the Gentiles”) and restore humanity to the Most High—a theme he advanced through teaching, preaching, and freely shared, multilingual resources. Remembered for clear, rigorous communication, his legacy is urging believers to read Scripture in its original supernatural and ancient context so the Bible’s big story—from Babel’s division to the Great Commission’s reversal—becomes clear. #jesus #gospel #christ #michaelheiser #baptism #jerusalem #satan #demons #evil #spirituality #spiritual All rights to this material belong to their respective owners.
