The Faith Field — Mary, Thomas, and Stephen at the Center of It All

In a previous video I described faith as a field with three aspects — trust, belief, and practice. In this video I go deeper by looking at three figures from early Christianity who each embody one of those aspects in a way that still gets misread, overlooked, or buried under centuries of distortion. Mary Magdalene has been called a prostitute, a romantic partner, a divine feminine symbol, and a gnostic saint. None of that is in the text. Strip it away and what remains is something far more powerful — a woman whose orientation toward Christ never wavered, even when everyone else scattered. Thomas has been reduced to a warning about doubt for two thousand years. That reading doesn't hold up. His demand for truth before commitment isn't weakness. It's integrity. And it's worth asking who Jesus actually reserved his harshest words for — it wasn't the doubters. Stephen is the first Christian martyr and one of the most overlooked figures in early Christianity. What he does in his final moments — and what he says — is one of the most direct expressions of red letter faith in the entire biblical record. The historical detail surrounding his death is something I'll let speak for itself. These three don't represent competing versions of faith. They represent the field in motion. And at the center of that field is the one figure none of them ever stopped pointing toward.
