The Problem Every “One True Church” Claim Can’t Escape | @OrthodoxEthos

Finding the “One True Church” is supposed to solve the problem of Protestantism—but first you have to navigate a maze to get there. In this Canon & Creed livestream, I respond to Eastern Orthodox priest Fr. Peter Heers (@OrthodoxEthos) and his critique of "Protestantism", asking whether Eastern Orthodoxy can really resolve the question of Church authority simply by telling Christians to “trust the Church.” We examine the “One True Church” claim, apostolic succession, reform and continuity, doctrinal development, the Fathers, the councils, and the pre-schism history of the filioque. Along the way, I argue that Orthodox appeals to historical continuity still require fallible judgments about which communion, councils, traditions, and developments truly preserve the apostolic faith.
