Death Defiled Everything—Why Didn’t Death Defile Jesus?

Jesus touched a dead body. According to Numbers 19 anyone who comes into contact with a dead body, is unclean. And that person if they remain in their impurity, they defile God’s tabernacle. So according to the Torah Jesus should’ve become unclean. But that’s not what happened. Instead of Jesus contracting corpse impurity, the girl contracted life. The Bible says Jesus touched her and immediately her life returned to her. (Luke 8:55) Of all the things Leviticus describes as making someone unclean, death was top of the list: Corpses, carcasses, dead animals, even animals that eat dead animals. And any person who came into close contact with death, couldn’t approach God‘s presence or the Tabernacle. It’s almost as if death cannot exist in God‘s presence. So What would happen if Jesus came into contact with death itself? What would happen if Jesus was crucified, died, and was buried and…… descended to the dead?
