Camouflage in the Kingdom: When Sin Makes Us Hide from God | Genesis 3:8–13 Why do we hide when we sin? In Genesis 3:8–13, Adam and Eve have just eaten the forbidden fruit, and the devastating consequences of the Fall immediately begin to unfold. Instead of walking openly with God, Adam and Eve hide among the trees of the garden. They cover themselves with fig leaves, become afraid of God, shift blame, and attempt to evade responsibility for their sin. In this sermon from Genesis 3, we examine Sin’s Terrible Cost, Sin’s Evasive Tactics, and Sin’s Only Remedy. God asks Adam four penetrating questions: Where are you? Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree? What have you done? These questions expose the human tendency to hide from God, blame others, deceive ourselves, and refuse to take responsibility for our sin. But these questions are not merely questions of judgment. They also point us toward mercy. Instead of hiding behind our own righteousness, good works, religion, or self-improvement, we must come into the light and find our covering in Jesus Christ.
