Stephen is the first Christian martyr. The first person to die for this. And somehow he is also the most overlooked figure in the entire tradition. No denomination carries his name. No movement was built around his memory. And when you ask why, the answer is almost too clean. You cannot institutionalize a man who died indicting the institution.
