The Problem With “Both Sides” Thinking

Most of us are trained to think that every disagreement in life comes down to two sides.
Science vs religion.
Left vs right.
Believer vs non-believer.
Good vs evil.
Right vs wrong.
And when we face these tensions, we’re usually told there are only two responsible options.
Pick a side and defend it.
Or balance both sides and call that wisdom.
But what if both instincts are wrong?
This video explores a deeper problem hidden inside the way we think about dualities. Two opposing poles without a third reference point don’t create stability — they create tension. And tension alone cannot tell you where to go.
When we live inside dualities, we often mistake reaction for agency. We think we’re choosing, when in reality we’re simply responding to pressure, identity, fear, or tribe.
The real shift happens when you step back far enough to see the field the duality sits inside.
Once you see the field, the question changes.
It’s no longer: Which side is correct?
It becomes: What direction am I moving the system toward?
This is where orientation begins.
And orientation is the only thing that actually stabilizes a duality.

The goal here is simple:
Better questions. Better orientation. A clearer understanding of the human condition.
