How A Father Leads Spiritually | Nehemiah 3:10-12

Next to them Jedaiah the son of Harumaph repaired opposite his house. And next to him Hattush the son of Hashabneiah repaired. Malchijah the son of Harim and Hasshub the son of Pahath-moab repaired another section and the Tower of the Ovens. Next to him Shallum the son of Hallohesh, ruler of half the district of Jerusalem, repaired, he and his daughters. — Nehemiah 3:10-12 SHOUT OUT: Tom Fredericks Sr. from Dickson, TN. He not only leads men in full-time ministry with Every Man A Warrior, but he also leads his family, including his children and grandchildren, with intention and purpose. Thanks for leading the way. When I read this text, I noticed two things. First, a man who lived across from the wall joined in. Maybe because for the last 150 years, he and his family looked out the window at a massive wall in disrepair. I bet this guy was more than eager to help. Second, notice that a father, who was a city leader, had his daughters involved. For Father's reading today, this is spiritual leadership—getting your hands dirty while getting your children involved. There are many Fathers and Grandfathers out there who are capable leaders who never do this. They lead at work and in life but fail to lead at home. Therefore, their children miss out on seeing and learning from their leadership. So get your family involved. Start bringing your family along. Serve alongside your children. Lead them into service. They will gain greater lessons from this type of leadership than from your professional achievements. And by the way. If you have a bunch of daughters and are trying to help them find a good, believing young man. The best place to find him would be out there working on the wall. Think about it. He got a job. He's lifting heavy things. He's serving on a mission for the Lord. This dad is pretty smart cause that checks a lot of boxes for me. So, thanks, Tom, for leading your family the way you do. ASK THIS: In what ways can you, as a father or mentor, actively involve your children or younger individuals in your spiritual practices or service activities? How can these shared experiences strengthen both your faith and your relationships? Nehemiah's story highlights the importance of collective effort and leadership in building something meaningful. In your life, what "walls" (be they physical, spiritual, or emotional) do you need to repair or build? How can you encourage and involve your family or community in this process, and what lessons do you hope they learn from it? DO THIS: Serve alongside your family. PRAY THIS: Lord, grant me the wisdom and strength to lead my family in Your service, showing them through my actions the joy of building our spiritual walls together.
