The Impossible Math in 2 Chronicles 22:2!

Is 2 Chronicles 22:2 a Bible Contradiction? (Ahaziah's Age, Explained) Was Ahaziah 22 years old when he began to reign, or 42? 2 Kings 8:26 says one thing. 2 Chronicles 22:2 says another. And it gets worse before it gets better, because 2 Chronicles 21:20 tells us Ahaziah's own father died at 40, which would make the son older than the father. In this video I walk through this classic "Bible contradiction" claim from the ground up. I look at two popular harmonization attempts (including one from Martin Anstey's Bible chronology and a reading sometimes attributed to Matthew Henry) and show why both lean on a misreading of a common Hebrew idiom, one that shows up dozens of times throughout Kings and Chronicles with no special meaning attached. Then I bring in the Septuagint. Most Greek manuscripts read 20, at least one reads 22, and the Syriac Peshitta agrees at 22, three independent witnesses lined up against the Masoretic Text's 42. I make the case that this is best understood as a transmission-level scribal issue rather than a genuine contradiction, and that the versions God providentially preserved alongside the Hebrew text give us a real, textually grounded way to work through it. No major doctrine hangs on this one. But if you hold a high view of scripture, these apparent tensions matter, and I think careful attention to the Hebrew and the Septuagint actually strengthens confidence in the text rather than undermining it.
