If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day. For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment—what to say and what to speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me. — John 12:47-50
Here we learn that Jesus's words have four distinct qualities. First, they are timeless, lasting forever, unlike the changing cultural constructs of our time. Second, they are true and, therefore, always effective, unlike popular positions that people posit in the present. Third, they are authoritative and possess power, unlike the inventions of human intuition. Fourth, they judge, and if not heeded, they will come back to haunt you at the end of time.
You see, Jesus's words are not like man's words. Our words are selfish, vile, deceptive, and full of pride. Man's words will never compare to the words of Jesus. That's because Jesus's words, while spoken in the flesh, are not themselves of the flesh—they are divine. They have special wisdom, unique power, and a supernatural effect because they are derived outside of our time and space.
And this is why we, as men, need to read them daily and act on them regularly. They are supernatural words that have a supernatural effect on our lives. And you should heed them and find help and hope in them, or they will come back to haunt you, and there will be hell to pay in the end.
ASK THIS:
How does understanding the timeless and authoritative nature of Jesus's words impact your perspective on the cultural constructs and popular opinions of our time?
In what ways can you actively incorporate the supernatural wisdom and power of Jesus's words into your daily life to experience their transformative effect?
DO THIS: Hear and act on God's Word.
PRAY THIS: God, may I listen and obey your words better today than yesterday. Amen.
PLAY THIS: Obedience.
