Lyrics
Jan Hus on the Mic. Some call me The Goose
Here to tell you about the Morning Star of the Reformation.
John Wycliffe is his name.
Let’s go!
I read his words, they cut through the night,
Truth from Oxford—Scripture’s the light.
He said Christ is the head, not Rome’s crown of pride,
And I echoed that fire on the Bohemian side.
He broke chains with translation, gave the Word to the crowd,
No Latin veil, just truth spoken loud.
He saw through indulgence, the Pope’s marketplace,
Declared salvation’s gift is God’s free grace.’
Wycliffe lit the spark, I carried on the flame,
They tried to burn it out, but the spirit remains.
The truth will conquer, it can’t be swayed.
The Word of God rises, it’s here to stay.
He taught the Church ain’t built on gold or land,
It’s the faithful redeemed, held in Christ’s hand.
He said the Mass is twisted, bread can’t trap the Lord,
Christ reigns in heaven, not locked in a board.
When I spoke in Prague, the people awoke,
The chains of Rome shattered with every stroke.
But council halls echoed, “Heresy! Blaspheme!”
So they bound me in chains, but the gospel still streams.
They dug up his bones, scattered dust in the brook,
But the Word he preached still lives in the Book.
And though they lit the fire, though the flames would rise,
I saw the Morning Star still blaze in the skies.
They said, “This goose is cooked,” but I told them plain,
“A swan will come after, you won’t contain.”
That swan was Luther, hammer in his hand,
The echoes of Wickliffe still shook the land.
Wycliffe lit the spark, I carried on the flame,
They tried to burn it out, but the truth remains.
The goose was slain, but the swan will sing,
The Word of God rises, Christ is King!
Wycliffe sowed the seed, I watered with my blood,
The harvest came later by God’s own flood.
If Rome stands against the truth of the Word,
Then Rome fights the King, the risen Lord.
