Our text today is Hosea 12:9-11
I am the Lord your God
from the land of Egypt;
I will again make you dwell in tents,
as in the days of the appointed feast.
I spoke to the prophets;
it was I who multiplied visions,
and through the prophets gave parables.
If there is iniquity in Gilead,
they shall surely come to nothing:
in Gilgal they sacrifice bulls;
their altars also are like stone heaps
on the furrows of the field. — Hosea 12:9-11
Truth is a gift delivered by God's voice through his prophets of old. God had not been silent. He warned Israel. Corrected them. Called them back. Sent faithful messengers to confront their drift and lead them toward repentance. But Israel preferred comfort over correction.
This is true for us all.
Most people naturally look for voices that affirm them, validate them, entertain them, or tell them exactly what they want to hear. But faithful teachers are different. Faithful teachers tell people not merely what they want to hear, but what they need to hear.
And that kind of truth and person can be uncomfortable because truth exposes pride. Truth confronts compromise. Truth challenges drift. Truth calls us to repentance, surrender, holiness, and change.
But the discomfort we feel is actually mercy.
Faithful teachers are not trying to control your life. Faithful teachers are trying to keep you from destroying it.
That is why believers need to learn to listen willingly to the truth, even when it cuts deeply.
But not every voice speaking about God is faithful to God—or a faithful teacher. Some teachers soften sin. Some reshape Scripture to match cultural trends. Some avoid the hard truth to retain approval. Some preach comfort without repentance, grace without holiness, or blessing without surrender.
On the other hand, faithful teachers lovingly teach the whole truth because they know that truth is what produces real transformation.
And we all need faithful voices in our lives. Not just voices that inspire us. Voices that sharpen us. Correct us. Challenge us. And lovingly call us back when we drift.
Spiritual growth does not happen by accident. It happens when humble believers remain teachable before God. So do not resist the inconvenient truth simply because it makes you uncomfortable. Lean into it today. God wants to use it to change your life.
DO THIS:
Identify one faithful teacher, pastor, mentor, or biblical voice that consistently points you toward truth, repentance, and surrender—and intentionally lean into their teaching this week.
ASK THIS:
Do I seek truth or just affirmation?
What biblical truth have I been resisting lately?
Am I willing to let God change me through faithful correction?
PRAY THIS:
Father, give me humility to listen to faithful truth even when it challenges me. Protect me from voices that only comfort me, and lead me toward teachers who faithfully point me back to you. Amen.
PLAY THIS:
