Does This Bible Verse Teach Hate?

I had an angry skeptic call me out on this Bible verse:
Luke 14:26- “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.”
He argued that Christianity was a religion of oppression, division, and hate, and the writers of the Bible must have misquoted Jesus to manipulate people. We actually ended up having a good conversation about this, and I’d like to share in this video some of the things I shared with him and elaborate on some of those points.
