Is "Empathy" a New Age Term?

I'm sure we've all seen a clip or a quote where Charlie Kirk said that he hates the word empathy and thinks it's a made up new age term. But is that all he said? Is there more to this? And is he even right? Not to mention we have self-help leaders like Brené Brown, Oprah Winfrey, and Mel Robbins redefining empathy in a way that is something far more powerful and above sympathy. Empathy is postured as something that's much deeper than sympathy. But is that really the case?
