The Secret To Eternity Now | John 5:24

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. — John 5:24 Most of the time, we read the text, and we don't realize its significance. We read it and don't let it weigh on us. This verse is one of those texts. Keep in mind this is Jesus speaking. He is the messenger of God. He is the Son of God. And right here, he is revealing an important secret. In the previous verses, he has just told us that four things make him distinct — his divine authority, knowledge, power, and judgment. And because he is given the right of judgment, he also provides us with the secret of escaping judgment. This is like a gambler being told the exact score of every Super Bowl for the rest of his life. This is like an investor knowing every startup that will become a corporate empire for the next 100 years. Jesus, the man who will judge the earth, tells us how to escape his own judgment. But Jesus's secret is way better because if we read and listen carefully to his words, we discover we can get the payout right now. The payout is eternal life. Not eternal life later. Eternal life now. Note Jesus's own words. Pay careful attention to the tense of the verb. Twice he states: He "has eternal life" and "has passed from death to life." This is something many followers fail to realize. Eternal life is not ours later at some point in the future. It's ours right now. In the present. Our imminent death is not where eternity begins. It is only where human life ends. Our eternal home is merely a continuation of the eternity to us given to us already. And the secret to realizing this eternal is this: Listen to Jesus, the messenger of God, with divine authority, knowledge, power, and judgment, and believe in the God who sent him. And just like that, by no good work of your own, you have the secret and the pleasure of eternal life right now. So do you want it? Right now? You can. Hear Jesus. Believe in God. And enjoy eternal life, escaping the final judgment. ASK THIS: Do you want eternal life? DO THIS: Hear Jesus and believe in God. PRAY THIS: God, I choose to listen to Jesus and believe in you.
