Biblical Counsel on the Demonic: Spiritual Warfare & Demons

C.H. Spurgeon quipped, "Sin is worse than the devil, since it made the devil what he is. Satan as an existence is God's creature, and sin never was; its origin and nature are altogether apart from God." We should not need to be reminded that in biblical counseling & discipleship we have been called to labor in opposition to the word, the flesh, and the devil. In our walk through this fallen and sinful world, our fight is not merely a struggle with flesh and blood, but against supernatural forces of darkness (Ephesians 6:12). So what emphasis is placed on the satanic and demons, and what emphasis is placed on the sinful flesh? Many friends, especially those coming out of charismatic circles, believe that if something bad happens to them or weird events surround them, it is due to satan. Therefore, if their child gets sick, they say that demons caused it. In reality, they go about living under the sovereignty of satan rather than God.
