Are You Ready To Own It? | John 1:35-42

The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas” (which means Peter). — John 1:35-42 Discipleship, mentorship, and leadership development is easier than we make it. Far too many men overthink the process, and in the hesitation, they end up doing nothing. And by doing nothing, they end up isolating themselves from the benefits of spiritual growth. So if you are tired of isolating yourself from a spiritual growth experience that could change your life, here are the five things you need to do. They are listed right in the text. You identify a godly man. You follow him as far as his wisdom will take you. You ask questions. You listen for the godly wisdom in his answers. You allow that wisdom to change you. And guess what? I would love to make this mandatory for you as a Christian man. But I can't, because you have to want to do it. Only you can do it. You have to take the steps. But I can promise you this. If you take ownership, responsibility, and initiative, it will forever change your life. Just take Peter. This experience is going to change Peter's life forever. He would become one of Jesus's three closest disciples, and his ministry would change the world, but that only happened because he took the first step and each step after that. So today, seek out a mentor. Seek out someone to disciple you. But don't put the ownership on them. You take ownership. That's why I put the pronoun "you" before each one of the points today. If you want to grow, then you need to do something. ASK THIS: Are you taking ownership of your spiritual growth? DO THIS: Do something right now. Anything! PRAY THIS: God, help me take initiative today. PLAY THIS: No Turning Back.
