2-Church History: The Biblical Framework

Early Patristic Church theologian, Irenaeus exclaimed, "We have learned from none others the plan of our salvation, than from those through whom the Gospel has come down to us (the apostles), which they did at one time proclaim in public, and, at a later period, by the will of God, handed down to us in the Scriptures, to be the ground and pillar of our faith." He and other faithful saints recognized that what the apostles taught orally, as sacred tradition, they handed down to the church in the writings of Scripture. As we continue our study of Church history we see the Church built and expanded on the foundation of the supremacy of the Word of God. The true church continues to stand on the foundation of Jesus Christ and the apostolic witness to Him.
