Luxury, status, and material blessing have become increasingly difficult to separate in some corners of Christian culture, especially when visible wealth begins to function as evidence of success, spiritual health, or God’s favor. This video looks at the theology beneath that instinct, from the modern emphasis on self-confidence and personal fulfillment to the idea that contentment can somehow position us to receive greater abundance, and considers how prosperity-gospel assumptions can persist even when they no longer resemble traditional health-and-wealth preaching.
