The slogan Post Tenebras Lux-After Darkness, Light-described the dawn of a new era of understanding in the Church during the Protestant Reformation. The light that shown forth was due to a renewed conviction that Scripture ALONE-not Scripture & the Roman Catholic Church-is the supreme authority for believers. When Martin Luther was asked to explain the mounting success of the Reformation he responded with unwavering confidence in God's Word: "I simply taught, preached, and wrote God's Word; otherwise I did nothing. And while I slept...the Word so greatly weakened the papacy that no prince or emperor ever inflicted such losses upon it. I did nothing; the Word did everything." So the Protestant movement was founded on Scripture alone and therefore could not be stopped. Join us for midweek Bible study on Wednesday at 6:00 for our continued study of church history. Lesson #11 is "Church History: Reformation & the Modern Age,pt1".
