The existence and crucifixion of Jesus under Pontius Pilate are accepted by the overwhelming majority of historians who study the ancient world. That does not automatically prove Christianity is true. But it does destroy the idea that Christianity is just a vague mythology floating outside of real history. Jesus was a real person. He lived in first-century Judea. He was executed by Roman crucifixion. And His followers immediately began proclaiming that He had risen from the dead. That is where the real debate begins. The honest skeptic can say an artifact does not prove God. Fair enough. But the honest skeptic cannot pretend Christianity has no historical foundation. The question is not whether Jesus existed.
