St. Bartholomew

Who is this often overlooked apostle? Not only is he overlooked, but he is not even named consistently across the gospels, as the Gospel of John refers to him as Nathanael. Here’s what we know about St. Bart: He was the very first apostle to confess that Jesus is the Christ. Following the events of the book of Acts, he preached the gospel in an area near modern-day India. He was martyred by being flayed alive. The church honors him because he clung to his risen Lord. Despite being overlooked, he was joined to the body of Christ, the other apostles, and all believers, who are united in Christ's victory over death. Contributor Rev.
