Stop ushering in a presence you’re not in. It doesn’t work. The congregation knows when you’re not present. They can feel it. You’re singing “Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders” but you’re in your head counting bars. You’re singing “I surrender all” but you’re worried about the sound mix. You’re everywhere except where the song is trying to take people. And here’s what kills me. You think you’re hiding it. You think your performance is good enough to cover the fact that you’re not actually present with Him. It’s not. Because presence has a weight to it. The congregation can tell the difference between someone who’s present with God and someone who’s just present on the platform. Between someone who’s leading from encounter and someone who’s leading from memory. Between someone who’s with Him right now and someone who’s hoping He shows up to save their performance. Revelation 1:8. “Who IS.” Present tense. Right now. He’s not waiting for you to get the atmosphere right. He’s not waiting for the perfect song. He’s already present. The question is whether you are. You can usher people into a presence you’re experiencing right now. But you can’t usher them into a presence you’re anxious about, hoping for, or trying to manufacture. Presence flows from presence. Not from production. Next time you step on that platform, where will you actually be? In your anxiety? In your performance mode? Or present with Him?
