One of the biggest questions in history is this: What convinced the first Christians that Jesus had risen from the dead? You can reject the resurrection. People reject historical claims all the time. But it's much harder to argue that Christianity began as a made-up story invented because people were bored. The earliest Christians believed something had actually happened. They proclaimed that Jesus had died, was buried, rose again, and appeared to eyewitnesses. Many of them endured imprisonment, beatings, and persecution rather than abandon that message. Now, dying for a belief does not by itself prove the belief is true. People from many religions have died for beliefs they sincerely held. The historical question is different: Why were the earliest followers of Jesus so convinced that the resurrection had happened?
