“I LOOKED IN THE MIRROR AND I DIDN’T EVEN RECOGNIZE WHO I WAS.” He grew up with a father who was a preacher, but instead of following the faith he grew up around, his life began moving in the opposite direction. Drugs, alcohol, addiction, and eventually prison became part of his story. After becoming addicted to methamphetamines, he was involved in a drug deal where a man lost his life. He found himself in county jail facing a capital murder charge with no idea what his future would look like. But prison didn’t immediately change him. Instead, he says he went even deeper into gangs, drugs, and the darkness around him. Every time he thought he had reached the bottom, it felt like the bottom gave way again. Then his son said something that rocked him to his core. His son challenged him about trying to teach him how to live while continuing to make the same destructive decisions inside prison himself. Something began to change. ❤️ In April 2022, at 30 years old, he looked into a mirror inside prison and didn’t recognize the man staring back at him. Then he says he heard God ask him: “How much longer are you gonna continue in your mess?” “How much further are you gonna run from me?” “When are you gonna give me the chance to pick you up and place you on solid ground?” He fell to his knees and surrendered his life to Jesus. From there, his life began to look completely different. He walked away from addiction, separated himself from the organization he had been part of inside prison, began studying the Bible, and entered a faith based prison program. He says Jesus met him in the middle of his addiction and gave him a freedom he never believed was possible. But God wasn’t only transforming his life. Today, God has also opened the door for him to build a relationship with a teenage daughter he had never known. His circumstances haven’t disappeared, and his story is still being written. But the man he is today is not the man he saw in that mirror. “Jesus Christ will set the captives free.” ❤️ This is his Sunday Story.
