Selfishness is a beast that lives in all of us. It doesn’t take long to remember moments when we’ve chosen ourselves over loving God or loving others. Power. Comfort. Reputation. Control. Herod faced truth — and chose himself. Pilate stood before Jesus — and chose political safety. Both had the opportunity to respond differently. But the very One Pilate sentenced to death was completing God’s plan to save selfish people — people like Herod. People like us. The question isn’t whether selfishness exists in us.
