I used to think the tell was how I felt walking off stage. Buzzing meant it was real. Flat meant I had missed it.
Wrong measure. Feeling has nothing to do with which one you were in.
Here is the test I use now. Would you have done the exact same thing if the room was empty? Same posture, same attention, same care with the words. If the answer changes depending on who is watching, that is your answer.
I have led worship in front of thousands and walked away asking if it counted. I have played a song to nobody and known without asking. The room size was never the variable. The audience in my head was.
If you lead anything, teach anything, show up for anything where people can see you, this applies to you too. Not just musicians.
