The word "idol" and "idolatry" can be used so frequently in Christian circles—and applied so broadly—that the topic can be attached to virtually anything. What's more concerning is that many believers are relating to this biblical topic from an almost obsessive-compulsive standpoint, which fuels very unhealthy and unfruitful perspectives and behaviors. Instead of experiencing freedom in Christ, they find themselves trapped in a cycle of self-examination and fear. Allow me to share some reasons why those with scrupulosity and OCD struggles have distortions regarding the topic of idolatry.
