Leader Lab No. 1: “Right-Size Yourself” Leadership is changing. What worked in previous eras won’t fly today. Institutional trust is low and positional leadership doesn’t account for much. We have to change the way we lead people. One of the clearest ways that has to change is how we respond to criticism, complaints, or concerns. The old way was to assert your authority and “deal with it” decisively. That may never have been the right approach, but will be disastrous today. Instead, it’s much more fruitful to: 1. Lean in with curiosity. 2. Consider ways we have contributed to the problem. 3. Provide clarity about what went into the decision or about the process of changing things based on the feedback.
